Our Turkish towels are beautiful pieces of artisanal handiwork, as well as multi-functional textiles that can be used throughout the home and while travelling. Just as with any other handmade textile, taking proper care of your Turkish towels will ensure that you'll be able to enjoy them for years to come. Designed to be use daily, they'll become softer and more absorbent with each wash!
We recommend soaking your towels before their first wash to improve absorbency. The bath tub or the laundry sink will work well for this. Make sure to soak them in freezing cold water and leave them overnight.
Now, it’s time for your first wash. We suggest cool or cold water with a natural detergent (our favourites include Seventh Generation, The Laundress, and Bio Vert). Washing with other Turkish towels or similar fabrics and colours is recommended.
Please NO fabric softener, dryer sheets, or bleach as they ruin the absorbency of the towel by making the material water repellent. Also on the NO list is dry cleaning; hand wash or delicate cycle only!
Hanging to dry is preferable (and eco-friendly!) as the dryer can cause shrinkage. Hanging your towels will also make them last longer. If machine drying is the only option, it is imperative that a low heat setting is used.
